Capt (IN) Dr Mahesh Kandpal served Indian Navy in the officer cadre for about 3 decades in various capacities and took pre-mature retirement after establishing the Sainik School at Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh). He was the Principal of Sainik School Tilaiya in Jharkhand and also led O.P. Jindal School at Angul (Odisha) as its first Principal.
Capt Kandpal is a scholar warrior with triple M.Sc. in Mathematics, Nautical Science and Defence Studies. In addition, he has B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil. (Education), Ph.D. (Quality Education), PG Diploma in Instructional Design (PGDID), PG Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA) and Diploma in Computer Management. He is an alumnus of prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (TN). He is also a qualified Psychologist from Defence Institute of Psychological Research, New Delhi. He has presented a number of seminal papers in conferences / seminars in the Service and also in International Conference on Quality Education. As a specialist Navigation Instructor, he has done a number of revolutionary inventions in the field of Astro-Navigation. As Lead Assessor of ISO 9000, he made his Alma Mater, Navigation Direction School at Kochi (Kerala), one of the first units to be certified ISO 9001 in the Navy.
Besides being rewarded by Raksha Mantri Trophy / Merit Certificates repeatedly for Sainik School Tilaiya by Ministry of Defence, he was also conferred Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Naval Staff Commendation for his devotion to duty by Indian Navy.
His dynamism inspires many. He is Black Belt in Karate, keen horse rider, trekker, who led Indian Navy as well as all Sainik Schools Trekking teams to high altitudes, a writer, an innovator, a philosopher and a widely travelled officer.
He is recipient of Vidya Ratna, Glory of India International Award, Indian Golden Achiever Award, Rising Personalities of India Award, Arch of Excellence Award besides getting a biographical reference in Asian/American Who’s Who, Asia/Pacific Who’s Who, Afro-Asian Who’s Who, Asian Admirable Achievers etc.
